Exploring Drafting, 12th Edition

15 minutes of fame! About a year ago the Goodheart-Willcox Co., Inc company approached me about having some of my work being used in their latest CAD textbook, which is called Exploring Drafting, 12th Edition. I was glad to provide a few architectural renderings and here is one of the pages in their Exploring Drafting, 12th Edition textbook, using one of my architectural renderings.

The Bullock Residence

This is was a pleasant project to work on. I had a drop-dead deadline, which I committed to, but colors and materials got to me kind of late. Nevertheless, I worked all weekend and pulled all-nighters, and met the dead-line. I really enjoy my job and it really isn't a sacrifice, other than time away from the family, but having a studio out of the house helps a lot with that.

New York Mansion Rendering

These mansion renderings , that I have been creating, are really some of my favorites.  Once I receive the brief and CAD drawings, I build the model, which usually takes 2-3 days and then I render out some gray-scale proofs. Once the proofs are approved, I start adding colors and materials, and I then send off low-resolution proofs. During both the gray-scale and color proofs, the design is usually messaged; once you see the renderings, you have time to really take in the architecture and make changes that you didn't know needed to be made. Environment and composition is my favorite part and once everything is approved, a render out 4K high-resolution finals.

Here, the designer is responsible for all architecture and branding of the building. The designer needs renderings for pre-sell purposes. The renderings will be used on the building's website and in marketing materials. The purpose of the renderings is to give buyers a realistic idea of the level of finishes and size of the units.

iPad Pro 12.9"

My experience with the iPad Pro 12.9". Awesome! Because of the large screen real estate you get a much heavier device and shorter battery life, but the tradeoff is worth it. The Apple Pencil is also awesome. Since it was made for the iPad Pro, it is seamless. I have tried almost every stylus, both cheap and expensive, and none worked well. The keyboard is also done very well. The keys are solid and integrated into the smart cover. When you fold the keyboard backwards, it goes away. I would like illuminated keys and a sound control, but other than that it is worth the money.

Now, about money. Not many people have a grand to drop, so it isn't for everyone. Luckily, for me, I can write it off. It isn't a laptop replacement like the Surface Pro; it is just a larger iPad. The iPad starts at $799, the smart keyboard cover is $169 and the pencil is $99. If it were a laptop replacement, the price would be a bargain, but since it isn't, it's an expensive way to surf the web

Chicago Townhouse Interior Rendering

One of my favorite clients, Z Feng Architect and Company. I actually worked with Zisong, while working for Lowenberg & Associates, out of Chicago. Both Zisong and I left Loewenberg, I believe I left first, and we reconnected on LinkedIn many years later.

Awhile back, probably one year ago, I worked on the exterior of the Morse building. Just the other day Zisong reached out to me for the interior.

Yes, those are pokemon pillows on the couch :)

Townhouse Renderings

These townhouse renderings came together nicely and I hope you agree. Originally, the architect reached out to me with the need for a single structure design, which I was glad to illustrate for him. The project has since fallen into the developers hands, and they have an opportunity to expand the project.

Over the past week, I worked hard to create something that I think will help them with their marketing.

Tiny House Renderings

It's all the craze, tiny houses, at least my wife and son love them. Here, are tiny cabins, which are the coolest thing.

Earlier this month I was asked to create some images, which will be on the manufacturers website, that will wow potential customers.

It was a challeneg that I hope that I achieved.
