Honestly, I never heard of this hotel chain, however, I loved the name. After doing my research, like I do for every project, I found that it is a Hilton property, I suppose Home2 is poplular other places, just not in my neck of the woods.

20 Penniman Loft Renderings

The work I do spans the globe, which always amazes me from where I have come from. Starting my career in the early 90's, where my work came from within a 30-mile radius, to working for people in almost every state and every continent. This project, the 20 Penniman Loft renderings, is in Boston. I visit my projects site using Google maps and this project is really going to boost the neighborhood. The building is under construction, but is months away from being ready for occupancy, so they need renderings to start their marketing campaigns. I don't think they'll have a problem filling these units up, hopfully crediting my work.

523 Brownstones

Here is a new project that I just wrapped up and wanted to share.  The architect did a great job with making, what essentially is 12 brick boxes, these apartments look warm and inviting. Or, at least, that was my objective with these architectural renderings.  

This projected started with a SketchUp model and that usually poses an obstacle for me. Although SketchUp is relatively easy to use and can be a great design tool, for high-quality architectural renderings, it falls short. Sometimes I chose to start over and build my model with the construction drawings, but in this case, they were not available, so I used the SketchUp model. With flipped normals, double geometry, and double-sided materials, it was a job to get it where I needed it. Once I got the model prepared for materials, I created dozens of individual bricks, from site photos the architect provided, and randomized those bricks across the building faces. I think the bricks turned out nice and so did the architect.

Classic Rambler Renderings

To tell you the truth, I fought with this one.  Color balance and composition are probably the hardest things to nail in these interior renderings. Building the model is time-consuming, but it isn't subjective. The non-subjective part of subtle hues and the rhythm of composition takes time and a good eye. Remember, they will love or hate your architectural renderings and they might not even know why.

House Plan Renderings

About once a month I get a house plan company emailing me for a quote on doing their house plan renderings.  The email usually goes like this, "I have someone committed to X dollars per house, but I like your work so much better; would you be willing to match their price?". Typically, the price they say they were quoted wouldn't get me out of bed in the morning, so the conversation doesn't usually go past a few email exchanges. 

The number of hours I put into my work would make most wonder what my motivations could be. I love what I do and smaller houses are my favorite. I do a lot of larger projects, so when a smaller house comes along it is a breath of fresh air. Here, is a smaller house for a house plan company that I did settle on a price that we both were happy with. It made front cover, which makes me smile.

What a 3D LUT

A LUT is basically a table that says if the input is 1 make the output 7. If the input is 0 make the output 5 – or whatever, these numbers are arbitrary, it is just a conversion matrix – take this, make it that. This can happen to the image over all or per colour channel (RGB). For example in the red channel use LUT A to make 1 = 7 but in the blue channel use LUT B to make 1=15.
