Rock House Rendering

Most projects have challenges, and the Rock House Rendering’s challenge was, you guessed it, the rocks. The majority of the work you see online is people’s personal projects. Even some big-name people, who you see some stunning work come from, have totally different 9-5 jobs, and their work is work done over months and even years as a hobby.

Building a successful architectural rendering is a lot of work, especially if you are virtually building something real, matching real selected materials and environment. The Rock House Rendering is a house designed to be built on an outcrop of stone. The roads, curbs, light-posts, and of course the rocks, are all real elements that I had to virtually create, so the rendering reflects the real environment it is to be built on.

Deer River Senior Care Rendering

Baby boomers are the demographic cohort following the Silent Generation and preceding Generation X. The Baby Boom generation is most often defined as those individuals born between 1946 and 1964. Wikipedia

I have a couple of teens, both in high school. Lately, they have been using the term “boomer.” Now, don’t take offense, you older folks (me included), they are not necessarily talking about the whole generation, just the annoying ones.

A person from the baby boomer generation or really anyone who is older than the person using the word, usually used if said person is being annoying or talking shitabout a younger generation. Sometimes used in a joking way among friends. Urban Dictionry

image_54184.jpg

These turned out great if I don’t mind saying so myself. Senior Care facilities are big business because we are not getting any younger as a country. I can only imagine I’ll be doing more of these as the years pass. I do like the design of this one, which always makes my job easier.

Palma Plaza Renderings

Below, please find the updated Palma Plaza renderings. This project came back to me after about a year, with updated interiors and an updated exterior. Sometimes, changes are made based on the renderings, which is called value-added. You can have an idea of how things will look, in your head, but seeing them in a photo-realistic rendering makes things perfectly clear. I tell my clients that the investment in a quality rendering is money well spent. The earlier you can make a change, the less expensive that change is.

Cohen Apartment Interior Renderings

One of my favorite parts of my job is the full gamut of design professionals I work with. I get all kinds of styles and these modern interiors I love. I have a black on black on black Jeep Wrangler, and I find myself wearing a lot of blacks. I absolutely love the black in these apartment, renderings. Also, I absolutely love brick. I am from Chicago, so it might be a Chicago thing. These bricks look like good old Chicago bungalow brick, and I love it! Having said that, I am not sold on the kitchen. What do you think? Please, leave a comment below.

Haury and Smith House Renderings

Great looking houses was is my first thought then I was given the PDF’s to quote on. Each home is unique and custom. I would love to build one of these, which would give me an older looking house, but brand new. I am now sure if this was their intent, but that’s how I see them. I would have fun with color and texture, but the designer went with some pretty simple color palettes. Do you have a favorite? Please, leave a comment, I would love to get your opinion.

Summertime Low Country Rendering

To tell you the truth, I am not sure what Low Country means, but I am sure it means something somewhere. Having said that, I do really like the design of these houses. Personally, I like the option without the front bedroom, how about you?

Farmhouse MEA Rendering

The Farmhouse MEA Rendering is a lovely house plan, which is designed to be located on a larger area of land, maybe a farm. The chickens are a nice tough requested by the architect, and I was happy to comply.

Often, more than you would think, I am asked if I sell these plans. I do not! I own the rights to the images I create from the plans, but I do not own the rights to the plans. I have built thousands of houses from architects and designers, and I have not shared one, which is my promise to the people who share their plans with me. I do offer to make a connection, but I do not share or sell the plans of the houses I render.

Brucker Cottage Autumn Rendering

There are a lot of things I try with my clients, like dramatic views, compelling compositions, and playful light and shadows. Often, my clients don’t know what makes the right image, so they trust me, and others like to make all the calls, and these rarely turn out good. This one, Brucker Cottage Autumn Rendering, my client suggested an Autumn scene with a very unkempt lawn; I jumped all over it! I used some depth of field and atmospheric effects to make things look real, which was essential to my client.

Cukier House

I absolutely love the Cukier House. I love the design, how the rendering turned out and working with the architect. So far, this will be my months favorite and might just find its way in this months newsletter.

The house will be set into a nice neighborhood with older homes. As the architect says, it it do or die, so they are using the rendering to get the neighbors approval. It really is a beautiful home, and I think after seeing the rendering, they will fall in love with it and welcome it into their neighborhood.

coNEXT House Rendering

I loved the projects name and design. Now that it is done I love the rendering, albeit I am a little bias.

Several keys to photorealism are the following:

  • Depth of field

  • Motion blur

  • Chromatic Aberration

For the coNEXT house rendering, I used all the above, however very subtle, which is also a key to photorealism.

One of my great pleasures is turning 2D CAD drawings into beautiful 3D renderings so my client’s client can see the design. I mean, come on, how is anybody going to understand the design intent without seeing it in a beautiful 3D rendering?

Nashville Twilight Rendering

I took a trip down to Nashville, TN last month and it was a blast. It was my daughter's dream, so we took a road trip. We arrived on Sunday and Broadway was pack; I can't imagine a Friday or Saturday night crowd.

My client provided me the drone shot of downtown Nashville, TN, which I used in the exterior deck rendering. The view is awesome! If this rendering doesn't sell units, nothing will.

Senior Housing Interior Renderings

When I was asked to create interior renderings for an senior housing facility, having aging parents myself, I jumped at the opportunity. All the furniture was custom modeled from the interior designer's specifications as well as all the other finishes (carpet, floors, wall art…). I was asked to add people, so space looked lively and exciting, which I did. People are always challenging to pull off unless you photograph people in the right lighting conditions and position for the renderings, which usually is cost prohibitive for most interior rendering budgets. These people are stock photos, and color corrected to seamlessly integrate into the interior renderings.

Penthouse Rendering

My client, who is an interior designer, had a client who couldn’t visualize their penthouse remodel design. Walls were removed, ceiling was changed and mirrors were hung. After a few iterations, my client’s client fell in love with their penthouse remodel, all before a hammer was swung.

Moose Hollow Renderings

I render a lot of different architectural styles, however, I think these rustic houses might be my niche. I am from Chicago, but moved up North to Northern MN a decade ago, so that might have something to do with it.

I am not a great fan of over-processed images, but I did a little HDRI color-grading to bring out the roughness of the material.

Inspiration

I often get emails asking for advice, favors, and freebies, but it isn’t often I get an email like this. It made my week, thank you!

Bobby,

I want to say thank you for the inspiration. I have referenced your renders for a long time in trying to improve my skill. Also your contributions to the Arch Viz community through your blog and various forums are a great resource. I appreciate you taking the time to post on the forums offering advice and providing solid solutions to the questions people have. I started following your work when I was employed at an architectural firm in Calgary, Alberta. This was around when my daughter was born and I was inspired by your business model to take the plunge to go freelance. Since then I have been working from home and it's the best thing I have done for my family.

Anyway, I'm not selling or asking anything I just wanted to pass on my appreciation of your work.
All the best,

12 Cornell Road House Rendering

Great testimony on the benefits of an architectural rendering. The house was designed, went through all the review processes, and signed off by the owner. All the CAD files we sent to me and I virtually built the house. After sending my client a gray-scale proof, they noticed that the detail at the entrance formed a perfect Christian cross. Now, my client’s name is Christian, but I don’t know is religious affiliation, but I can assure you, he didn’t know he would have a cross at his front door. Personally, I loved it. The design was changed and now it doesn’t look like a Christian Church. Everyone involved scratched their heads wondering why they didn’t notice from the CAD drawings. Once they saw the architectural rendering it was plain as day, even on the CAD drawings that they have been looking at for months.

725 Brookside House Rendering

I absolutely love this house!

I work for people across the globe and I see a lot of architecture and I know a lot of architects world-wide. Most architects outside of the states mock me for the american houses I illustrate. You know, the box with the garage door taking up most of the front facade. Well, this American house breaks that mold and I love it; I think they will love it too.

Margolius Residence

Great piece of property with a nicely designed home. There are three proposed structures. A main house with an outdoor pool, a garage, and a crafts building. The site is hilly and heavily wooded, which added a level of complexity to the project.

3rd and Taylor Nashville, TN Rendering

Nashville, TN, a place my daughter wants to visit and a place I have done many architectural renderings for. Another thing about Nashville, TN, I have yet to work on an architectural rendering project that had a flat site; very hilly. Well, my daughter will get her wish because we are making a trip down to TN this weekend. I am going to Memphis and my wife and daughter will continue West to Nashville, TN.

Manor Streetscape Rendering

Streetscape renderings are pretty time consuming and not easy to pull off, but hopefully I pulled it off on the Manor Streetscape Renderings. With a ton of detail, subtle depth of field and creative color grading, my objective was to make it a real an natural looking suburban street.

This projects has six more images and I’ll those later, so please come back in a week. Each house gets a one point perspective and then I have an overall view to create.
